The yips can be described as an involuntary movement affecting the lower arms and wrists resulting in a jerk, twitch or freeze, how many times you must have read that!
Here are just a few of the many descriptions used by my own clients, electric shock type feeling shooting through body, pins and needles running down arms, knees buckling, arms seeming to take on a mind of their own.
Not many people are lucky enough to get through life without experiencing some emotional upsets along the way, either in their personal or professional life, each time this happens a disruption is caused within the persons energy system. Should there be a major shock or upset, or a series of smaller ones then the system can become overloaded.
This overload can happen at any point in time taking the person completely by surprise. It appears to come from nowhere and for no apparent reason whilst performing a particular action, be it a putt/chip in golf, double top in darts or an extraction in dentistry. Shocked and puzzled, anxiety and tension are experienced when faced with a similar action, remembering that something 'went wrong' the last time. Embarrassment and fear soon follow as their symptoms become more noticeable to others leading to a snowball effect.
These disruptions can show themselves in a variety of ways, fears and phobias, overreacting to situations, feelings of anger and panic attacks are just a few in a very long list. My years spent studying and curing the yips have led me to the unshakeable belief that whenever a precise action is required, such as in Golf, snooker, dentistry, surgery etc this becomes fertile ground for these disruptions to show themselves. The jerk twitch or freeze, commonly known as the yips is just an outward display of an inner energy disruption, once cleared out of the system, the problem is then resolved.
For many years different studies have taken place to determine the cause of the yips in the hope of finding a cure, the most well known being the one conducted by the Mayo clinic in Rochester USA. They believe that there are two types, type 1 being Dystonia, a neurological disorder and type 2 choking, an impaired ability to execute a skill caused through anxiety, their search for the cause and therefore a cure continues.
My findings are that there is only one type and one cause. I have spent the last 6 years successfully curing the yips, therefore I think it is fair to say, that to be able to cure the problem, I must have found the true cause. Click here for testimonials.
